Oh yeah I have a blog!

May 24th 2013

Finished my sea glass necklace awhile back but forgot to blog.  I've been really bad about posting my blog but hey I'm busy enjoying life!

I finished sea glass earrings to go with the necklace. My husband was going up to visit my daughter and I though they'd look better in her cute earlobes than in mine and her Dad shouldn't visit empty handed! So off they went and were happily received.  I need to make my girls some more earrings.  It's hard for me to work small. I like big and after talking to a dichroic glass artist she explained older or heavier women prefer big jewelry and young or slim women prefer dainty  jewelry.  I guess she may be right.  I'm definitely older and bigger but I do like some fine petite jewelry too.  So I'm guessing there is a skinny person in me that comes out once in awhile!

The last picture is a Veriscite stone from Nevada i bought a long time ago and finally set.

These all have issues and I'd not get a good grade if they were graded but I've learned a ton making them and I am limited by some inadequate tools but I've had a ball making what I have.

Going it on my own

Well I moved out of the studio I was in with a bunch of friends.  It was a half hour away and I just felt like it was too much travel to dabble in silversmithing.  So I have set up an at home studio.  No where near as good as what my friend has but it's what I've got.  I miss my bench mates i played with everyday and their creative input.  Hopefully we are getting together this week for breakfast and to catch up.  I'm currently working on a seaglass necklace for fun.  I finished my turquoise necklace a while ago but finally got a piece of velvet to photograph it on which makes it much easier to see.  This is just a pic from my phone I need to set up my light box and take a good pic but this is what i have so far.  I learned a lot making this which is what I seem to say every time I touch metal.  One of these days I hope to not touch that metal so much when it is searing hot!  You'd think I'd learn that faster!

It's been hotter than Hades here this summer.  A comic had two devils reading the paper and one commenting that it is hotter in Tulsa than it was there.  So I've been in the studio with my friends coming and going with their summer travels, grandchildren's births and it's been a little quieter than usual until our one dear friend starts her hammering which we really do enjoy.  I made my link with the lost wax process and have been learning to bead set and having fun.  Here are some things I've made with the links so far.

Well I've been busy making jewelry.  I carved a link and will post it soon but here are some other things I have done recently.  Chain mail 18 inch necklace, and another wax carved gypsy bezel ring.  I also had to make a leather and turquoise wrap bracelet I saw on Pinterest and had to have.  Worked on learning square bezels with the copper turquoise and carnelian bracelet up top. Today I made a homemade light box that I shot these pictures in.  I have some tweaking to do on it but it works!
